Business Office or Home Office? 05/12/2010
I'm a big fan of the home office, but a business office is a good idea if you want to attract corporate work. That being said, you can do some things to cover your office costs in the off-season. 1. Advertise bookkeeping, payroll and tax services on Craigslist 2. Advertise business services like budget forecasting 3. Use targeted AdWords (it's so cheap) to attract clients in your area. 4. Go around to small businesses locally and introduce yourself I tend to agree that a nice office in an upscale building is better than a place with walk-in traffic, like a strip mall. Even if it takes longer to build a client base, I believe it's a better setting to cultivate better clientele. I discuss this issue at length in my book, The Enrolled Agent Tax Consulting Practice Guide, which is available on Amazon or anywhere books are sold.
